Apple Announces Largest-Ever Solar Procurement Deal for a Non-Utility

Apple is investing $850M to buy electricity generated using solar power.  According to Mr. Tim Cook, CEO, Apple will get 130MW of power, which will be enough for all of their California stores, offices, headquarters and data centers.  “We know that climate change is real,” Cook said. “Our view is that the time for talk has passed, and the time for action is now. We’ve shown that with what we’ve done.” Importantly, the deal is expected to save Apple a considerable amount of money, although the full terms haven’t been disclosed. Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Ikea, and Wal-Mart have all invested heavily in renewable energy, and it appears that the trend is only growing stronger. (BloombergBusiness)
